"Rediscovering Interlanguage" provides an account of the development of research and thinking in the field of learner language. It considers the very earliest empirical work right through to the present speculation about the place of interlanguage in second language acquisition theory. It argues the need for fundamental hypotheses to be synthesized and reframed in the light of current theory and research. It also demonstrates how earlier research contains further insights that have contemporary relevance to second language acquisition and to teaching practices.
