L'autore
Two of Walt Disney's famous "Nine Old Men," Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston met as students at Stanford University and joined the Disney studio within a year of each other in the mid-1930s. In 1978, they retired from Walt Disney Productions and began work on this book. In that same year, they received the "Pioneer in Film" award from the University of Southern California chapter of Delta Kappa Alpha National Honorary Cinema Fraternity and further honors from the American Film Institute at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

This copy is in blue boards with gilt illustration to front (Geppeto paints Pinocchio), and (while the page counts remain the same) is somewhat more compact, measuring only 1-and-a-half inches (38 mm) thick, as opposed to a full 2 inches (50 mm) for the Abbeville Press edition, which was in red boards. Number line complete 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 -- the first printing, thus. Priced $60.00 (Canada $81.00) to unclipped jacket front flap. Bottom right corner of jacket front panel shows some small indentations, invisible under Brodart protector and not penetrating to underlying board -- kitten chew?
