This is a new collection of living legend Gifu Horihide's recent illustrations. Now retired after over 60 years of tattooing in Gifu, Japan, Kazuo Oguri is devoting his time to drawing and painting. Predominately tattoo inspiring imagery reminiscent of ukiyo-e masters Kuniyoshi and Yoshitoshi this collection is rife with tattoo reference and inspiration. It highlights the Suikoden heroes and has an index in English for anyone interested in learning the back stories of the characters in the illustrations. Master Horihide is a traditional Japanese tattooer, a practitioner of tebori or 'hand poke" tattooing, who befriended Sailor Jerry in the 60s and helped introduce Japan to electric machine tattooing along with the use of colored inks previously unknown to the Japanese. He has been hailed as a pioneer in the industry for crossing borders and widening the world of tattooing in Japan. This is a must have for any collection of Japanese art and tattoo reference.
