A reissue of the classic 1970s vinyl LP, released as part of the Vintage Beeb range and featuring ten stories from The Magic Roundabout.
The Magic Roundabout was originally created for French television, as Le Manège Enchanté, in 1963. Its creators were Serge Danot, Ivor Wood and Wood's wife Josiane, and it was broadcast on ORTF between 1964 and 1971. Considering that the series would be too difficult to dub into English, the BBC commissioned Eric Thompson to write new scripts to go with the original stop-motion animation footage. Thompson also narrated the series, which became a cult success and appealed to the whole family. It ran for 441 five-minute episodes between October 1965 and January 1967; and in 1991 a further 52 episodes were broadcast with Nigel Planer as narrator. In 2005, a film adaptation was released, with a stellar cast including Kylie Minogue, Robbie Williams, Bill Nighy, Tom Baker, Jim Broadbent and Lee Evans.
