L'autore
Née en 1912, Elsa Morante a vécu à Rome. Elle publie son premier recueil de nouvelles, Il Gioco segreto en 1941. Il contenait un certain nombre de nouvelles qui font partie du Châle andalou. Son roman, Mensonge et sortilège, a remporté le prix Viareggio en 1948 et l'a révélée au grand public. Le prix Strega lui a été décerné pour L'Île d'Arturo en 1957. Elle est décédée le 25 novembre 1985.
