L'autore
René Goscinny, né le 14 août 1926 à Paris, a passé toute son enfance en Argentine. De retour en France, après ses études secondaires au collège français de Buenos Aires, il enchaîne les petits métiers avant de faire ses débuts dans le journalisme. En 1959, il fonde le journal Pilote pour lequel il crée les personnages d'Astérix et d'Obélix, avec son ami le dessinateur Uderzo. Le succès est immédiat, foudroyant même. Les aventures de ces deux champions tonitruants d'une Gaule généreuse et débraillée séduisent d'emblée et durablement le public. Figure illustre de la bande dessinée, scénariste de Lucky Luke et d'Oumpahpah notamment, Goscinny partage également, depuis 1956 avec Sempé, la paternité du petit Nicolas, écolier à malice dont les frasques et les naïvetés redoutables enchantent toujours les lecteurs de tous âges, dans le monde entier. René Goscinny est mort d'une crise cardiaque en 1977.
Sempé est né à Bordeaux, le 17 août 1932. À 17 ans, il roule à bicyclette pour un courtier en vins. En 1960, il démarre avec Goscinny l'aventure du petit Nicolas, dressant une inoubliable galerie de portraits d' "affreux jojos qui tapissent depuis notre imaginaire" (dixit Goscinny). Son humour fin, subtil et allusif allié à un formidable sens du dérisoire caractérisent toute son œuvre. Sa plume traduit sa vision tendrement ironique de nos travers et des travers du monde. Aujourd'hui, Sempé est l'auteur d'une trentaine d'albums. En 1988, il a illustré Catherine Certitude, de Patrick Modiano. Il dessine régulièrement pour "L'Express", "Télérama", "le New Yorker" et expose ses dessins et ses aquarelles à Munich, New York, Londres ou Salzburg, où il rencontre toujours un très vif succès.
