Das Gefühl, am Leben vorbeizuleben, hat wohl jeden schon einmal beschlichen. Schlachtermeister Oskar Külz aus Berlin bildet darin keine Ausnahme. Und doch ist Külz ein besonderer Fall. Insofern nämlich, als er in die Tat umsetzt, wovon andere nur zu träumen wagen: Külz, Inhaber eines gutgehenden Schlachterladens und Vater dreier Söhne, beschließt, dem Gleichmaß seines Alltags zu entfliehen und auf Reisen zu gehen.
In Kopenhagen wird er in eine turbulente Kunstraubaffäre verwickelt, bei der nicht nur Räuber und Beraubte mehrfach wechseln, sondern auch Original und Kopie der gestohlenen Miniatur wiederholt verwechselt werden. Ungeachtet des durch die Aufregungen dieser Reise verursachten Gewichtsverlustes erweist sich Schlachtermeister Külz jedoch als imponierende Figur.

L'autore
Erich Kästner wurde 1899 in Dresden geboren und starb 1974 in München. Der Schriftsteller, Satiriker, Dramatiker und nicht zuletzt Autor der berühmten Kinderklassiker ›Das doppelte Lottchen‹, ›Das fliegende Klassenzimmer‹, ›Pünktchen und Anton‹, ›Emil und die Detektive‹ und ›Die Konferenz der Tiere‹ wurde mit zahlreichen Preisen bedacht (u.a. mit dem Büchner-Preis und der Hans-Christian Andersen-Medaille).
