Als The Very Hungry Caterpillar ist die kleine Raupe 1969 in Amerika aus ihrem Ei geschlüpft. Sie war da noch ganz klein, aber schon wenig später tauchte sie auch diesseits des großen Teichs auf, unter dem Namen Die Kleine Raupe Nimmersatt, und wurde größer und größer. Sie war auf Englisch genauso hübsch und gefräßig wie auf Deutsch, und sie ist bis heute genauso zweisprachig wie ihr Schöpfer Eric Carle. Deshalb ist die kleine Raupe ein völkerverbindendes Tier und geradezu dafür gemacht, Kindern die ersten einfachen und kindgerechten englischen Sätze beizubringen, im Kindergarten wie in den ersten Schulklassen.

L'autore
Eric Carle wurde 1929 in Syracuse, New York, geboren. Von 1935 bis 1952 lebte er in Deutschland und kehrte dann in die USA zurück. 1968 veröffentlichte er sein erstes Bilderbuch und begründet im Jahr darauf mit der "kleinen Raupe Nimmersatt" seine internationale Karriere als Kinderbuchautor und -illustrator. Er lebt seit 1988 in Northampton, Massachusetts.
