This is "The Cruise of the Dazzler" by Jack London. It's the reprint edition published by Grosset and Dunlap in their "Every Boy's Library Series' issued under the aegis of The Boy Scouts of America. Likely printing for this copy is circa 1920. There are six monochrome plate illustrations, including the frontispiece. *********************************************** At the front of the book is a facsimile of a promotional announcement made by the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America, discussing the planning and hope for the series. The two-page announcement was written by James E. West, then acting Chief Scout Executive. At the head of the announcement is a list of luminaries who were backing or involved with scouting and on the National Council; among them are listed Woodrow Wilson, Colonel Theodore Roosevelt, William H. Taft, Ernest Thompson Seton, Daniel Carter Beard, and others. The announcement is dated July 31, 1913. One can see from the condition of the type face that the announcement has been printed quite a few times; the printing date of this copy is likely circa 1920. ********************************************** SERIES : Every Boy's Library / Boy Scout Edition / TITLE : The Cruise of the Dazzler / AUTHOR : Jack London (John Griffith London - born John Griffith Chaney, 1876 - 1916) / ILLUSTRATIONS : Burns / IMPRINT : Grosset & Dunlap / PLACE : New York / DATE : Printing unstated [ circa 1920 ] / EDITION : Reprint / PHYSICAL DETAILS : trade Hardcover; juvenile title; 6 plate illustrations, including frontispiece, printed on calendered paper (the illustrations, includng the blank versos, are included in the pagination); placed before the half-title, and not included in the pagination is the two page announcement from the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America; [viii] + 250 pages , plus four pages of publisher's list [ the numbering beginning at 3, I conclude that the frontispiece illustration is included in the pagination - no proof, just my surmise ] ; 5" x 7 3/8"; greenish-drab cloth covered boards with black lettering on spine and front board, and decorative Boy Scout emblem printed in black and red on spine and front board.
