Burke's new book, 'Autrefois, Maison Privee' (meaning "once a private house") is somewhat of a departure from his previous titles. The book is a collection of photographs made in Cambodia of primarily French-influenced architecture. While published in the form of a 'monograph' and a seeming departure from Burke's more autobiographical books, the individual images in 'Autrefois, Maison Privee' often contain strange, apparently contradictory and disturbing references to Cambodia's history, as seen through Burke's unique perspective of the region's architecture. Printed by Steidl Verlag in tritone 'Autrefois, Maison Privee' is exquisite, and should be one of the very best books published of the year!
