Fra i massimi esponenti di questo rinnovamento sta Augusto Murri (1841 -1932). Laureatosi a Firenze, dopo studi di specializzazione a Parigi e Berlino, nel 1875 fu chiamato alla cattedra di clinica medica a Bologna (dove fu anche rettore, prima di diventare deputato al parlamento italiano nel 1891). Murri si affermò con i suoi studi sulla febbre (1873-1884), quindi con studi sulle lesioni cerebrali e cerbellari, sulla emoglobinuria da freddo, sull'organotopia e l'insufficienza ghiandolare, sul meccanismo di compenso fisiopatologico (Legge di Murri). I suoi Scritti medici (1902) e le Lezioni di clinica medica (1908), gli hanno assicurato un posto preminente non solo tra i clinici ma anche tra i filosofi della scienza contemporanei.

Die Lehrer, die am meisten Einfluss auf seine med. Bildung ausübten, waren GHINOZZI, BOUILLAUD, PIORRY, TRAUBE, FRERICHS und GRISINGER. Fünf Jahre lang übte er die med. Praxis als Gemeindearzt in S. Severino, in Fabriano und in Civitavecchia aus; 1871 wurde er Assistent an der von Prof. BACCELI geleiteten med. Klinik in Rom und seit 1876 ist er ord. Prof. der med. Klinik in Bologna. (Cantani). Zu seinen bedeutendsten Schriften zählt das in "Tratt. ital. di pathol. e. therap. Med. Milano 1893" erschiene Arbeit "Tumori intracranici". Das Exemplar ist sehr gut leserlich und ausgezeichnet erhalten. Die 16 Seiten Literaturangaben zeugen von seiner außerordentlichen internationalen Belesenheit und bürgen für eine ungemein gehaltvolle Arbeit.
