Included are both editions of this collection of Nazi-propaganda, aimed to counter the measures taken by the Anti-Nazi Boycott of 1933. One edition contains the German, English, and French versions, while the other, contains the same content published in German, Dutch and Swedish. Shorty after the Nazi Party fully took power in March of 1933, an international boycott of German goods was initiated by Nazi critics and Jewish organizations, in response to the anti-Semitic policies and recent actions of violence and intimidation against German Jews. In response to the boycott, the Nazis launched there owner "counter-boycott" of Jewish businesses, commencing on April 1st, 1933. Additionally the Nazis mounted their own counter-propaganda campaign, to discredit the accusations that the party and government sponsored or condoned the anti-Semitic measures. These multi-lingual volumes were published as part of the campaign, according to the publisher, to "vindicate Germany's honour at the present, but also to discredit allegations directed in future campaigns of agitation against it". Assembled to include statements from party leader's, members of the press, and most especially prominent members of the German Jewish community and Jewish organizations, they were meant to corroborate the party line statements, and give the impression of a government and political party that neither systematically supported nor condoned such anti-Semitic actions (although admitting a few rogue acts had recently taken place). These statements of course were pure fiction, and in fact the government had instigated and supported such actions since the time of Hitler being named Chancellor in January, 1933. The while some were simply in denial at the time, most of the statements from members of the Jewish community, were either written under coercion or immense pressure from the Nazis, were altered, taken out of context, reedited or possibly fabricated altogether. An interesting example is an excerpt from the statement "purportedly" given to the Berlin correspondent of the French right-wing newspaper "L'Intransigeant" from prominent German Rabbi Leo Baeck. He is quoted as stating: ".The reconstruction of Germany is an ideal earnestly pursued within the ranks of German Jews. With no other country in Europe are Jews so intimately and inextricably connected through centuries of history as with Germany.To give trouble to the new German government, politicians of the Left have throughout the whole world taken Judah as their shield and attempted to damage the prestige of the National-Socialists at present in power by spreading irresponsible and untrue rumous of their political adversaries." One volume with some light foxing to the interior overs, endpapers and the half-title. Book blocks tight overall. Bindings in good+ to very good- condition. Interiors in very good- to near fine.
