Timbro di biblioteca nobiliare impresso a secco al frontespizio. Trascurabile lavoro di tarlo limitato al margine interno di alcune carte centrali (lontano dal testo), sporadiche e naturali arrossature. Esemplare nel complesso ben conservato. Leonardo Fioravanti (1517-1588), medico bolognese, fu una figura atipica nel panorama scientifico del tempo in quanto annoverabile tra i pochi seguaci di Paracelso. Così la voce F. nel Dizionario Biografico degli Italiani (vol. 48, a cura di Anna Mainardi): âSi distinse per un accentuato interesse alla sperimentazione che lo indusse a trascurare nella pratica la rigida separazione consuetudinaria dei ruoli dei medici, degli speziali e dei cerusici. Il suo tentativo di fare del medico il protagonista dell'intero processo terapeutico, dalla diagnosi alla preparazione dei farmaci alla chirurgia e il fatto che egli scrivesse in volgare i suoi trattati, seguendo anche in ciò l'esempio di Paracelso, furono spesso considerati lesivi della dignità della professione medica ed esposero il F. a denigrazioni e persecuzioniâ. L'opera è divisa in cinque libri: âNel primo de' quali si tratta de' secreti più importanti nella professione medicinale. Nel secondo s'insegnano molti secreti appartenenti alla Cirugia; et si mostra il modo d'esercitarla. Nel terzo si contengono i secreti più veri, et più approvati nell'arte dell'Alchimia. Nel quarto si scrivono molti belletti che usano le donne per apparer belle. Nel quinto si comprendoni i secreti più notabili in diverse arti et esercitijâ.
