Inspirado probablemente por Gala, que alimentó su interés por el misticismo, Dalí se puso manos a la obra. El proyecto le entusiasmaba y siguió con él aun cuando el acuerdo con el productor finalmente no llegó a concretarse.Sus diseños fueron publicados como obras artísticas de tirada limitada en 1984. Es la primera baraja de cartas de tarot concebida por un artista de primera línea de la que se tiene noticia. El tarot se remonta al Renacimiento. Considerado por algunos un método de interpretación de los sueños o para la predicción del futuro, vio aumentar su popularidad en la década de 1970 gracias al movimiento hippy. Ahora TASCHEN recupera las 78 cartas de esta irresistible baraja de Dalí, que recoge representaciones fascinantes de personajes y símbolos como el Mago, los Amantes, la Luna, la Muerte, el Sumo Sacerdote y la Emperatriz, diseñados por medio de un collage de dibujos, iconos y manchas de color.
