Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. 1st Edition. British edition, first printing of this collected edition, 1970. With original unclipped (and unpriced) jacket. Contains three titles : Death on The Nile, Towards Zero and After the Funeral. Jacket has minor patchy edge/shelf wear, (severe) fading to red lettering to spine, a few small marks, the odd small crease/rub to edges, a little pushing/rubbing to head/tail of spine, little pushing/bumping to corners (which has resulted in very small tears in a couple of places), large red marks to reverse (white side) where colour from boards has run (these do not show through when on book), a few small scratches, little patchy browning and minor creasing/rubbing to front/back inner flaps. Boards are near fine (having been well protected by the jacket) with a little pushing/bumping to a couple of corners and very minor pushing/rubbing to head/tail of spine. Little spine lean. Pages are generally clean and the binding is tight. Top edge of pages dyed red have the odd minor scratch/small mark. Pages slightly tanned. Very occasional small mark to pages. No other faults. All books described honestly and accurately. Paypal accepted.

Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. 1st Edition. AGATHA CHRISTIE - DEATH ON THE NILE, published by UK publisher Collins, copyright 1937, First Printing (states "Copyright 1937" on copyright page with no references to subsequent printings), lists to "Dumb Witness" on list of Christie books to left of title page, 4 pages of ads at rear (reviews for "Dumb Witness" "Cards On The Table" & "Murder in Mesopotamia" & ad to join the Crime Club), orange cloth boards with black lettering to spine and front board, correct 1st state original Dust Jacket (generic reviews to rear panel & reviews for last 3 books to rear flap) . Book has just a couple of creased page corners, no former owner or used bookstore markings/stamps inside, clean endpapers with no staining or tape residue, no foxing to pages, endpapers, or outer pages, hint of age darkening/dust soiling to outer page edges, no lettering fading/wear to spine (common defect with these early Collins 1st print books), no wear to board edges, just a hint of wear to board corners, slight wear to spine tip corners, usual slight dust/handling soiling to cloth boards, slight spine sun fading. Original Dust Jacket has no restoration but has been slightly trimmed at top and bottom (obviously taken from a Collins "ex-libris" edition book where a couple of % of the first printing were printed in different colored slightly smaller but stronger boards and hinges with the round "ex-libris" logo at bottom of front board) however all of the spine printing is still retained despite the trimming (unlike other restored out there for sale), no chipping or tearing or creasing, slight wear to spine tips with largish 'v' losses at spine tip corners, slight wear to front flap crease (nick losses at flap crease corners), almost no edge wear, hint of dust soiling/foxing to white rear panel, slight spine sun darkening, no scotch tape marks to flaps, no soiling or staining. Overall a VG book in VG/VG+ condition (trimmed) dust jacket (price clipped) of a rare 1930s era UK Agatha Christie 1st printing IN ORIGINAL FIRST STATE DUST JACKET. She also wrote the world's longest-running play, the murder mystery The Mousetrap, which has been performed in the West End of London since 1952. A writer during the Golden Age of Detective Fiction, Christie has been called the Queen of Crime a nickname now trademarked by her estate or the "Queen of Mystery". She also wrote six novels under the pseudonym Mary Westmacott. In 1971, she was made a Dame (DBE) by Queen Elizabeth II for her contributions to literature. She is the best-selling fiction writer of all time, her novels having sold more than two billion copies. Death on the Nile is a work of detective fiction by British writer Christie, published in the UK by the Collins Crime Club on 1 November 1937 and in the US by Dodd, Mead and Company the following year. The UK edition retailed at seven shillings and sixpence (7/6) and the US edition at $2.00. The book features the Belgian detective Hercule Poirot. The action takes place in Egypt, mostly on the River Nile. The novel is unrelated to Christie s earlier short story of the same name, which featured Parker Pyne as the detective. Aggiungi al carrelloA near-fine copy bound in finely woven brown cloth stamped brightly in black on the front boards and on the spine. With a drawing of a Sphinx and pyramid at the center of the front boards. With a name and date (1938) in ink at the top of the front endpaper. Very clean and tight throughout. Printed on heavy white stock which is clean and bright. The type is crisp and in fine register. In the original dust jacket with the price of $2.00 at the top of the inside front flap. With light chipping to the top and bottom of the spine ends. Light wear along the outer edge of the front fold; wear at the corners. Rather scarce in the original dust jacket. A collector's copy. Film Adaptations: The novel was adapted into a 1978 feature film, Death on the Nile, starring Peter Ustinov for the first of his six appearances as Poirot. Others in the all-star cast included Bette Davis (Miss Van Schuyler), Mia Farrow (Jacqueline de Bellefort), Maggie Smith (Miss Bowers), Lois Chiles (Linnet Doyle), Simon MacCorkindale (Simon Doyle), Jon Finch (Mr Ferguson), Olivia Hussey (Rosalie Otterbourne), Angela Lansbury (Mrs Otterbourne), Jane Birkin (Louise), George Kennedy (Mr Pennington), Jack Warden (Dr Bessner), I. S. Johar (Mr Choudhury) and David Niven (Colonel Race). The screenplay differs slightly from the book, deleting several characters, including Cornelia Robson, Signor Richetti, Joanna Southwood, the Allertons, and Mr. Fanthorp. Tim Allerton is replaced as Rosalie's love interest by Ferguson. Another film adaptation, also called Death on the Nile, directed by and starring Kenneth Branagh, was released on February 11, 2022. It is the follow-up to the 2017 film Murder on the Orient Express. Some characters and details are either omitted or differ from the novel, while the elements of the central murder remain unchanged. Bouc replaces the character of Tim Allerton, and he is joined by his mother, Euphemia. Salome Otterbourne is now a jazz singer and no longer a drunk, while Rosalie is her niece whom she adopted. Bouc is the third person killed instead of Salome Otterbourne. Linnet's lawyer Andrew is now also her cousin, and Mrs. Van Schuyler and Miss Bowers are a lesbian couple. Mrs. Van Schuyler is also the godmother of Linnet. All the suspects are friends of the married couple who have invited them to their honeymoon celebration. A World War I romance is invented for Poirot, and it is hinted that Poirot and Otterbourne have romantic feelings for each other.
